West Coast Fever have taken part in a dress blessing ceremony with Shooting Stars participants at the State Netball Centre today.
Fever’s Round 8 clash will hold extra significance for the Club on Saturday night against the Adelaide Thunderbirds, with the Team set to host its dedicated Shooting Stars Round.
An initiative of Netball WA and Glass Jar Australia, Shooting Stars uses netball as a driver to help enable Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander girls to reach their full potential through engaging in their education, whilst promoting their health and wellbeing; building pathways towards employment.
2018 will be the third season Fever have held a Shooting Stars Round, providing an avenue to highlight the significant relationship between netball and the Indigenous communities of Western Australia.
Fever players will wear the commemorative Indigenous dress during Shooting Stars Round and the League-wide Indigenous Round two weeks later, which was designed by Noongar artists Peter Farmer and Kylie Graham.
West Coast Fever Executive Officer Tamara Sheppard said the Club was incredibly proud to have the opportunity to wear the dress twice in 2018
“Shooting Stars Round is a wonderful opportunity for our Club to embrace the significant results that are being achieved by the Shooting Stars Program,” she said.
“I would like to congratulate and thank both Peter Farmer and Kylie Graham for their outstanding artwork that features on our Indigenous dress once again.”
