In July 2025, Shooting Stars participants from Years 10 to 12 travelled to Boorloo (Perth) for our annual Senior Leadership Camp. The camp brings together young women from across our sites for a week focused on leadership, connection and exploring future pathways.
Each year, participants are selected based on the leadership they have already demonstrated, their leadership potential, and the commitment they have shown to school and to the Shooting Stars program. Spending time together in Perth creates a valuable opportunity to build friendships across regions, learn from one another, and step into new experiences with confidence.
A Week of Leadership, Culture and Connection
The camp opened with a Welcome to Country by Honey Webb, setting a strong foundation of culture, respect and connection for the week ahead. On the following day, participants then came together for a Welcome Dinner alongside Shooting Stars staff, partners and Board Members. It was a special opportunity to celebrate the young women selected for camp and recognise the leadership they bring to their schools and communities.
Across the week, participants took part in workshops, mentoring sessions, cultural experiences and challenge-based activities. Each experience encouraged them to step outside their comfort zones, strengthen their leadership skills, and support one another as a group.
Exploring Strength and Self-Belief
One of the key sessions this year was the Write Your Future workshop delivered by Lancôme and Brooke Blurton. This session encouraged participants to reflect on their strengths, care for their wellbeing and recognise the power of their stories.
The group also completed a series of team-building activities at Bickley Outdoor Recreation Camp, where they pushed themselves physically and mentally. These challenges gave participants the chance to build resilience, courage and trust — qualities that sit at the heart of strong leadership.
Imagining Future Pathways
Helping participants explore future opportunities is a core focus of the Senior Leadership Camp.
During the week, participants took part in a Careers Expo where Shooting Stars partners hosted interactive stalls showcasing career pathways, training options, scholarships and workplace insights. The session opened with a panel of guest speakers who shared their experiences in the workforce and offered practical advice about what is possible after school.
For many participants, it was their first opportunity to speak directly with organisations and learn about real pathways they may be able to access in the future.
Pathways in action
As part of camp, participants and staff visited Mineral Resources (MinRes) at their Osborne Park headquarters to learn about the range of roles and career pathways within the business and the broader resources sector.
Participants took part in sessions focused on women’s health, job readiness and financial literacy, with opportunities to connect with MinRes staff and experience a workplace environment firsthand. For many, the visit helped make future pathways feel more tangible and achievable.
A Powerful Finish at First Nations Round
Senior Leadership Camp aligns each year with the West Coast Fever First Nations Round, and for many participants it is one of the most memorable parts of the week.
Shooting Stars was proud to be match-day partner, and every Senior Leadership Camp participant had a special role on the day. Some attended the Green Room VIP pre-match event, some formed a guard of honour as the players ran onto the court, and Perth-based participants joined Honey Webb and the Kwopidak Kenning Yok dancers on court for a quarter time performance.
As the final day of camp, it carried extra meaning. By then, the group had spent a full week getting to know each other and building close friendships. For many participants, the match-day experience felt like a celebration of culture, connection and community, and a powerful way to close out the week together.

Celebrating our emerging leaders
Senior Leadership Camp is a reminder of what happens when young women are given space to connect, try new things, and be recognised for the leadership they already carry. We are proud of every participant who took part in the 2025 camp, and we look forward to seeing how they continue to lead within their schools, families and communities.
