Shooting Stars is pleased to announce the program has received a $10,000 grant thanks to the State Government’s Department of Local Government and Communities Grants for Women program.
The Grants for Women program aims to assist community service organisations in implementing projects that focus on addressing the unique issues faced by women, including economic independence and leadership.
The grant will aid Shooting Stars in the development of the Young Achievers Leadership program, aimed at implementing a new leadership development pathway model which will strengthen the positive profile of young regional Indigenous women, developing their leadership capability and capacity.
Shooting Stars Executive Officer Fran Haintz thanked the State Government for their support.
“We are very proud to have been acknowledged through the Grants for Women program for the valuable work Shooting Stars is delivering in our communities,” Haintz said.
“This new project will identify and raise community awareness of barriers to rural and remote Indigenous women’s leadership, and promote the removal of those barriers, supporting and encouraging women to pursue leadership positions.”
“The Young Achievers Leadership Program will provide these girls with a toolkit to implement their leadership style moving forward, also exploring models of workplace support for women with caring responsibilities.”
The program will be centered around the annual West Coast Fever Indigenous Round weekend, catering for 14-19-year-old Indigenous girls with prospective participants to be selected from a formal application process.
Run by Glass Jar Australia Board Director Robyn Smith-Walley, the immersive and collaborative course will build leadership skills to empower the participants to become more inspirational, confident and effective leaders within their respective communities.
