Shooting Stars is pleased to have secured funding of $110,000 from The Lionel and Yvonne Spencer Trust.
Shooting Stars is an initiative of Netball WA and Glass Jar Australia, which uses netball to encourage greater attendance and engagement at school for young Aboriginal girls living in remote areas of WA.
The Lionel and Yvonne Trust is managed by Perpetual, who are trustee to approximately 1000 trusts and endowments and provide individuals and families with advice on establishing charitable foundations and structured giving programs. Perpetual also assists charities and not-for-profit organisations with investment advice and management.
Caitriona Fay, General Manager, Community and Social Investments at Perpetual said, ”As Trustee of The Lionel and Yvonne Spencer Trust, we are proud the trust has been able to support the Shooting Stars program. It is an exciting initiative that will lead to great outcomes for the young Aboriginal girls involved, and provide them with opportunities they might not previously have been able to access.”
Shooting Stars Executive Officer Fran Haintz said the funding will be used in a variety of highly valued but under-funded areas.
“This significant investment will have a direct impact in boosting outcomes across all of our sites in Western Australia by supporting improved planning and program development projects,” Haintz said.
“I would like to thank The Lionel and Yvonne Spencer Trust for joining us in helping young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander girls embrace education and aim to reach their full potential.
The Shooting Stars program has already enjoyed tremendous success in 2018, with a number of well received initiatives.
Earlier this year, students in the Shooting Stars program travelled to Perth for the annual leadership camp, where they had the opportunity to engage with strong Aboriginal female role models to gain invaluable knowledge.
Shooting Stars participants were part of the West Coast Fever Dress Blessing Ceremony, where students presented Fever players with their Indigenous dresses ahead of the Shooting Stars Round against the Adelaide Thunderbirds.
