Sandfire Resources NL has furthered its partnership with Shooting Stars, committing more than a quarter of a million dollars to the program and becoming its first Foundation Partner.
One of the State’s leading copper miners, Sandfire has committed $260,000 over the next four years to the program, which will support a full-time Indigenous Program Coordinator role, and the provision of a full-time Indigenous trainee at Meekatharra District High School.
Additionally, the partnership with Sandfire will provide four scholarships for participants from Meekatharra to attend the annual Leadership Program in Perth, the provision of equipment requirements, and the support of the delivery of Yarning Circles.
Yarning Circles are a unique longitudinal study, designed specifically for the program, and serve a dual purpose, enabling the evaluation of the progress and efficacy of the program, and providing a platform for communities and participants to drive the direction of their local program.
The extension follows Sandfire’s earlier commitment of $20,000 in May this year.
Sandfire Resources Chief Commercial Officer Robert Klug said “Meekatharra’s youth deserve the same opportunities they would get if they were living in Perth and Shooting Stars exposes the girls to a world that can be theirs if they are engaged with their learning.”
“Well done to Lynley and everyone at Shooting Stars on what has been achieved so far. We couldn’t be prouder to be supporting them and look forward to our ongoing collaboration.”
Glass Jar Australia Executive Officer Fran Haintz believes the commitment will have a significant impact.
“To extend our partnership with such a strong supporter of the Shooting Stars program, is something we are incredibly excited about,” Haintz said.
“Our Program Coordinators and Trainees are essential elements of Shooting Stars, and it’s fantastic to see Sandfire Resources continue to support these positions.”
“The value of this partnership, and the impact it will have, can’t be understated, and we look forward to working with Sandfire over the next four years to continue to affect genuine change in the Meekatharra community.”
