During the school holidays, some of our staff and participants made the trip up to Broome with the Leonora Blazers Basketball Program, and they joined hundreds of other young people for the Broome Junior Basketball Carnival.
The Blazers basketball program is a non-funded local program which Leonora Shooting Stars supports at a local level with our staff and young leaders forming part of the volunteering team and leadership group.
The Broome Advertiser highlighted the intense competition and exceptional sportsmanship which lit up the courts at the Junior Basketball Carnival. The Blazers made their presence known, with a number of tournament highlights:
- Under-13 Girls: MVP Winner
- Under-13 Boys: Grand Final runners-up, with one team member awarded Runner-Up MVP overall, and another named Runner-Up MVP for the Grand Final
- Under-18 Boys: Another Blazers team member earned Runner-Up MVP Overall in the division
We ran into our Shooting Stars Executive Officer, Helen Ockerby, while we were there! She praised the team's efforts in Broome:
"The Leonora crew represented their community well, not just showcasing their talent, but also their incredible teamwork and sportsmanship. Their hard work was evident on and off the court, and they should be incredibly proud of themselves"
