A December sundowner with the extended Shooting Stars team was an opportunity to reflect on the year’s achievements.
To say goodbye to another year, the Shooting Stars team, Board Directors, corporate partners and other valued supporters gathered for a special Sundowner event at the picturesque South Perth Foreshore in December, 2024.
The evening kicked off with a moving Welcome to Country by Honey Webb, a long-time collaborator, advocate, and close friend of the Shooting Stars program. Honey was joined by three of her daughters, who performed a series of dances to Honey’s original songs sung in Noongar language, creating a powerful and meaningful experience that left a lasting impression on those in attendance.
Executive Officer, Helen Ockerby then shared her reflections on the year, highlighting the many achievements of the team. She thanked the staff for their unwavering dedication, and emphasised the profound impact of their work, from coordinating camps and excursions to the small but meaningful moments of connection—like the informal yarns and the warm smiles that greet participants each morning. Helen also acknowledged the Board and partners for their invaluable support, which has kept Shooting Stars flourishing.
Next, Glass Jar Australia Chair, Dr. Glenda Kickett, shared her joy at having everyone together for the event. She noted that 2024 marked Helen’s first year as Executive Officer and commended her leadership in guiding the organisation to new heights. Aunty Glenda also highlighted the upcoming milestone of 2025 being Shooting Stars’ 10th year in operation. She expressed her pride in witnessing the growth of both the program and the hundreds of young women who have benefited from it.
The evening continued with a delightful dinner set against the stunning backdrop of the grassed foreshore, as attendees celebrated another successful year while looking forward to a bright future ahead.
