Shooting Stars All Staff Forum Ends 2024 on a High Note

Usually separated by up to 3264km (that’s the distance from Collie to Wyndham), Shooting Stars staff from across Western and South Australia came together on Whadjuk Country (in Perth) in December 2024 to close out the year with an All-Staff Forum before breaking for the school holidays.
The forum featured a range of informative sessions led by internal staff, along with a wellness workshop facilitated by mental health professionals from Mineral Resources.
Two dynamic and impactful days of workshops with external facilitators from Deshong Consulting brought incredible energy and depth to the experience. Led by Kuku Yalanji woman Michelle Deshong, with the support of Minyungbal Mibany woman Rachael (Rach) Cavanagh, the sessions were action-packed, engaging, and filled with invaluable knowledge. Whether reframing and strengthening existing understanding or introducing completely new concepts, Michelle and Rach created an environment of rich learning and connection. The workshops were culturally appropriate, highly relevant, and left staff inspired and empowered. Many staff members praised the sessions as outstanding, emphasising how the facilitators connected on both cultural and personal levels, making the learning experience deeply meaningful.
The week concluded with award presentations, honouring staff who had shown exceptional commitment throughout 2024. The closing event for the week was a festive gala dinner, providing the team with an opportunity to reflect on their collective achievements, strengthen connections, and celebrate success after a year of dedicated work.
