This month, Shooting Stars proudly hosted a vibrant sand art activity at the annual Telethon Family Festival. For Shooting Stars participants from Kiara College, Collie, and Wagin, the festival became a platform for these young leaders to shine, facilitating interactive sand art with children and families throughout the day.
The success of the activation was a testament to the leadership skills and commitment to community embodied by young people in the Shooting Stars program.
"Our participants took charge with an incredible sense of respect and responsibility, guiding young festival-goers through the activity and showing what true role models they are," noted a Shooting Stars staff member.
This year, Shooting Stars is a proud recipient of a Telethon grant, which helps fund the Art with the Stars program. This initiative, which connects young participants with local Aboriginal artists, encourages exploration of cultural identity and strengthens ties to Country and Community through storytelling and art.
The Telethon Family Festival proved to be a success on all fronts, not only by offering engaging activities but also through the outpouring of support. Telethon set a new record in donations once again this year, showcasing the remarkable generosity of Western Australians. Shooting Stars congratulates Telethon on this milestone and is honoured to be part of this transformative community event.
Thank you to everyone who visited our stall, participated in the sand art activity, and helped make the day a memorable celebration of art, culture, and community spirit.
