Glass Jar’s Shooting Stars is honoured to be selected as the charity of choice by 2018/19 AIM WA Pinnacle Awards Business Leader of the Year winner Chris Ellison.
Mr Ellison is the Managing Director of Mineral Resources Limited, which last year signed a four-year partnership with Shooting Stars contributing $200,000.
Mr Ellison has more than 36 years of experience in the mining contracting, engineering and resource processing industries and is a founding shareholder of Mineral Resources.
The Australian Institute of Management in Western Australia (AIM WA) each year selects an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to leadership across the corporate, government, community and not-for-profit sectors in Western Australia.
At a gala function at The Westin Hotel in Perth on 21 March, Mr Ellison was named the co-winner of the 2018/19 Pinnacle Awards Business Leader of the Year, alongside former Water Corporation CEO Sue Murphy.
The winners received leadership and management training to the value of $20,000 to donate to a charity of their choice.
Mr Ellison chose the Shooting Stars program, an initiative of Glass Jar Australia.
“I am delighted to be able to gift the prize of AIM WA leadership and management training to our community partner Glass Jar Australia for their Shooting Stars programme,” Mr Ellison said.
“The work that Shooting Stars undertakes is crucial for improving the lives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth who live in our regional areas.
“The more we can help Shooting Stars succeed, the bigger the difference we can make in encouraging our youth to embrace education and strive to achieve their full potential.”
Shooting Stars Executive Officer, Fran Haintz, thanked Mr Ellison for his support.
“It’s truly an honour to be selected as the charity of choice for this generous donation,” Ms Haintz said.
“An organisation is only as strong as its people and their resources, and this donation works to ensure the Shooting Stars employees have the skills required to encourage our participants to achieve their full potential.”
“This gift is a game-changer for our team, 85% of whom are Aboriginal women living and working in their own communities.”
“I would again like to thank Chris Ellison and AIM WA for this amazing opportunity.”
