More than 30 young Shooting Stars participants will take part in an exciting Junior Leadership Camp in the Kimberley this week.
The Primary School participants from across regional Western Australia were selected from each Shooting Stars site based on their attendance, behavior and demonstration of the Program’s values – pride, respect and success.
After a rigorous selection process, the students selected from Carnarvon, Meekatharra, Halls Creek, Derby, Mullewa, Leonora and Narrogin can be very proud of their achievements so far in 2019.
The State-wide Primary Kimberley Camp will take place in Lombadina Community and Broome.
The lucky participants will be immersed in cultural experiences on the Dampier Peninsula while in the Lombadina Aboriginal Community and surrounds.
The students will learn about local culture, the history and way of life of the Bardi-Jawi people, while getting the chance to interact and bond.
Site Coordinators will travel with the students, and Kimberley Regional Manager, Helen Ockerby, will host the girls on her father’s traditional homelands that of the Bardi people.
Shooting Stars Executive Officer Fran Haintz said the Camp was a wonderful opportunity for the students.
“These participants have earned their place at the Camp through hard work and commitment across the year and they are thoroughly deserving of what we believe will be an unforgettable experience,” Haintz said.
“The cultural learnings are extremely important for our participants, but it is also a wonderful opportunity for them to get to know people from other sites and build on our Shooting Stars values and outcomes whilst enhancing their leadership skills”
The Junior Leadership Camp is supported by the 100 Women grant, which the program was awarded earlier this year.
