The Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet has reaffirmed its support of advancing Indigenous women in remote parts of Western Australia through the Shooting Stars program, extending the current partnership for up to three years, including $1.5m in funding committed in the first year.
Acting Prime Minister The Hon. Julie Bishop MP delivered the news to Glass Jar Australia Chairwoman Professor Colleen Hayward AM, Shooting Stars Executive Officer Fran Haintz, and Netball WA Chief Executive Officer Simon Taylor during her visit to the State Netball Centre this morning.
Haintz welcomed the Federal Government’s ongoing support.
“This funding allows us to continue to change the lives of young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander girls living in Western Australia’s remote communities and regional towns,” Haintz said.
“We are indebted to the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet for their commitment to the program, and look forward to sharing the significant outcomes and achievements over the next 12 months and beyond.”
The funding comes under the Commonwealth Government’s Indigenous Advancement Strategy, and will enable Shooting Stars to operate in its existing six sites.
