Shooting Stars has won a Strengthening Rural Communities Grant from the Foundation for Rural & Regional Renewal.
The funding has been set aside to support two Cultural Reward Camps in 2019 for the Shooting Stars Leonora Site.
Shooting Stars Cultural Reward Camps engage Participants with their education by developing their cultural understanding, fostering emotional and physical health and wellbeing, and engaging them with Aboriginal role models.
The Camps get the girls excited and optimistic about the Program and reinforce the expectations around attendance and behaviour to establish a positive cycle.
The Foundation for Rural & Regional Renewal (FRRR) is a not-for-profit organisation that harnesses the power of collective investment between government, business and philanthropy to improve the lives of those living in rural, regional and remote Australia.
Since it was established in 2000, FRRR has distributed more than $85 million to about 9,500 projects across rural, regional and remote Australian communities.
Shooting Stars Executive Officer Fran Haintz said the Leonora Participants would be enriched as a result of the Grant, allowing them to do something that would not normally be possible.
“The Foundation for Rural & Regional Renewal Strengthening Rural Communities Grant will have a real impact through the Shooting Stars Program in remote WA,” Haintz said.
“Our Cultural Reward Camps are a major driver in promoting our message of engaging in education, with an emphasis on health and wellbeing.”
“The more we can engage with our participants, the better our outcomes will be.”
