Three Shooting Stars participants at Whyalla Stuart Campus R-7 had the opportunity to engage with local Aboriginal artist, Scott Rathman, to design a mural for Headspace Whyalla.
Marilyn, Demisha and Allirah participated in a workshop where they explored positive mental health and identified activities that made them feel good, happy and well, including listening to music, walking out bush and playing sport with family and friends.
The participants then created original designs that represented each of these activities that were incorporated into Scott Ratham’s design for the Headspace Whyalla mural.
Shooting Stars Executive Officer Fran Haintz said the mural was a fantastic collaborative initiative.
“This is a great example of organisations working together to achieve a common goal, with Shooting Stars and Headspace Whyalla collaborating to create a safe space for Aboriginal girls and women,” said Haintz.
“The Shooting Stars program places significant emphasis on both positive mental health and art making as a means for participants to connect with themselves, their communities and their country.”
This project comes off the back of Shooting Stars launching three sites in Whyalla South Australia for Term 3, empowering 45 Aboriginal girls.
