Our year 4 – 6 Leonora and Laverton Shooting Stars participants enjoyed a trip to Kalgoorlie this week, taking part in a day of activities with the West Coast Fever team.
For Shooting Stars, the purpose of the camp was to connect, reward and inspire ten of our junior participants. They joined the West Coast Fever athletes and our corporate partner, Gold Industry Group and their members for a fun filled day that provided the girls an opportunity to further develop their social skills, self-confidence and teamwork.
The girls spent the morning at Hannan’s North tourist mine, owned and operated by Northern Star Resources - an important member of the Gold Industry Group and valued major partner of Shooting Stars. The girls buddied up and took part in a gold pour demo, a golden adventure trail and gold panning. The tourist mine was a beautiful way to start the day and created a relaxed environment for Shooting Stars participants and staff to form relationships with the Fever athletes, GIG and Northern Star staff.
Later in the afternoon, Shooting Stars enjoyed a sundowner with West Coast Fever, Gold Industry Group, Gold Fields, Northern Star and St Barbara, with guests from Kalgoorlie-Boulder Visitors Centre.
Our Partnerships and Philanthopy Manager, Fi Reeves, flew to Kalgoorlie to attend the event and was touched by how engaged the Shooting Stars girls were and how fast they formed meaningful friendships with the Fever players. “The highlight was seeing the girls swap stories of career ambitions, their favourite music and movies and how many pets they have! It was a super fun day for kids and adults alike!”
