Shooting Stars ignites its primary school participants’ leadership journey with its annual Junior Leadership Camp held in Yawuru Country (Broome) last week.
Made possible by the WA Police Community Crime Prevention Fund, the camp brought together participants from across the eight Shooting Stars sites who have demonstrated exemplary behaviour, leadership potential and improved school attendance.
The purpose of the camp is to connect, reward and inspire our participants through a mixture of activities designed to educate, engage and empower our students to shoot for the stars.
Our young leaders were immersed in cultural experiences whilst in Broome and learned about the local culture, history and the ways of life of the Yawuru people whilst focusing on the importance of teamwork and leadership.
Shooting Stars Executive Officer Fran Haintz said the camp is one of Shooting Stars’ biggest events on its calendar.
“Being a leader starts now and our camp works to inspire our young participants to start their leadership journey today,” said Haintz.
“It’s a great opportunity for the girls to celebrate the culture, meet new like-minded participants from other sites and grow their networks, as well as develop their leadership skills which they can take home with them and implement.”
Developing leadership skills is an ongoing journey and at Shooting Stars our focus is not only on our participants but also our Staff. The Junior Leadership Camp was led by Kimberley Regional Manager, Kirsten Howard and run by our junior staff members from each site. This was also a great opportunity for our young workforce to further develop and grow their leadership skills as the organisation supports and guides them on their career path.
