Shooting Stars is excited to announce its expansion in the South-West of Western Australia, now empowering Aboriginal girls and women in Collie.
Based in Collie Senior High School, Shooting Stars recently launched its program in Term 3, engaging 45 participants from Years 7 to 9.
Coordinating the program is Wilman Noongar woman, Kristina Ugle.
“Having more of our proud Aboriginal girls graduate and be successful in employment opportunities, is something very close to my heart,” said Ugle.
“Having spent 17 years with the Department of Education as an AIEO and eight years as a Noongar language teacher, this role with Shooting Stars combines both my passions of empowering our next generation and sharing my knowledge to educate on the diversity of Aboriginal groups.”
Ugle was drawn to the Shooting Stars opportunity due to the organisations focus on providing its participants with the resources to make informed choices about their education and employment journey.
“Shooting Stars brings a cultural perspective to the education system, providing its participants with a safe space of understanding whilst teaching the girls how to cope in different situations and changing their attitudes towards school,” said Ugle.
Collie is one of five sites launched this year, with Shooting Stars focused on working with over 1,000 participants by the end of 2021.
