In celebration of World Youth Skills Day, Shooting Stars is reflecting on the organisation’s commitment to empowering its staff through development opportunities.
World Youth Skills Day celebrates the strategic importance of equipping young people with skills for employment, decent work and entrepreneurship.
Since its inception, Shooting Stars has supported over ten of its young employees in completing traineeships alongside working for Shooting Stars.
Narrogin Program Assistant, Taya Olman, who successfully completed her Certificate III in Sport and Recreation last year, said she enjoyed the challenge of combining work and study.
“I love working for Shooting Stars,” said Olman.
“Not only do I get to guide and motivate our young Aboriginal girls into their futures, but Shooting Stars also provides me with opportunities to develop my skills for my own future.”
Shooting Stars Executive Officer Fran Haintz said our people are our biggest asset.
“Providing development opportunities for our young staff through traineeships is extremely important. It not only empowers our staff, but also their communities,” said Haintz.
“By empowering and supporting our people we ensure our programs operate to their full potential.”
Over the next five years, Shooting Stars aims for a minimum of 50% of its staff to have undertaken professional development and leadership opportunities annually, most recently signing up two of its new employees in Port Hedland to complete their traineeships with the support or Shooting Stars.
