In addition to supporting participants to attain their educational goals and succeed in life after school, Shooting Stars continues to drive the professional development of its staff, with a number of team members completing upskilling and training.
Members of Shooting Stars’ growing team from regional and remote locations throughout Western Australia have recently travelled to Perth to undertake leadership and management training at the Australian Institute of Management.
It was made possible by a $20,000 grant from 2018/19 AIM WA Pinnacle Awards Business Leader of the Year winner, Chris Ellison. To date eight Shooting Stars staff have benefitted from the grant.
Staff members, Shelley Coleman (Leonora), Siobhann Williams (Halls Creek) and Resa Foai (Narrogin) recently completed the Assertive Communication for Women course at the Australian Institute of Management in Floreat.
Shooting Stars Executive Officer, Fran Haintz, said the development of its workforce was something the program prided itself on.
“At Shooting Stars we want to develop our staff to become strong leaders, not only at work, but also in the community,” said Haintz.
“We’re really proud to see our staff continue to push their own boundaries, to improve and become more confident leaders.”
As well as leading the Shooting Stars team in the North West full time, Regional Manager for the Kimberley, Helen Ockerby, is also undertaking a degree at the Centre for Aboriginal Studies at Curtin University.
Helen is completing her second year of a Bachelor of Applied Science, Indigenous Professional Practices, Community Development and Management stream. During a recent visit to Perth, she had the opportunity to share Shooting Stars’ Yarning Research Methodology with students and lecturers at the Centre for Aboriginal Studies.
