Shooting Stars celebrated National Reconciliation Week across the state last week with all eight sites partaking in a range of activities to highlight this year’s theme, In this Together.
To kick it off, Shooting Stars Research Manager Rose Whitau led a Zoom Conference with Netball WA, West Coast Fever and Shooting Stars staff around the Archaeology of Aboriginal Australia.
The Halls Creek and Carnarvon participants collaborated with the Girls from Oz Australian Girls Choir performing in an acapella piece, ‘Walk with me’ to celebrate being In this Together.
Each of the sites created their own Reconciliation Week banners and artworks to bring all the participants together in support of the reconciliation journey.
Narrogin created Reconciliation Week photo booths to bring awareness in their own social circles of the importance of National Reconciliation Week.
Leonora shared a video of their participants explaining what reconciliation means to them signifying the importance of National Reconciliation Week.
Shooting Stars Executive Officer, Fran Haintz said National Reconciliation Week is of utmost importance.
“This week is about increasing awareness of Australia’s journey towards a more just, equitable and reconciled nation,” said Haintz.
“When it comes to reconciliation, everyone has a role to play to collectively build relationships and communities that value, treasure and celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, histories and cultures.”
