Derby Participant, Tayana, was one of the very first girls to attend a Shooting Stars camp back in 2016. This year she attended her last ever Shooting Stars camp, travelling down to Perth for the 2022 Senior Leadership Camp held in early November.
Tayana joined Shooting Stars in 2016 as year 6 student in Derby, one of the very first sites that Shooting Stars opened. Back then, Shooting Stars was in its infancy as a program, having only officially launched the year prior.
This year, Tayana is not only graduating from year 12 but she has also applied for a traineeship at Main Roads, hoping to start in 2023.
On day one of this year's Senior Leadership Camp she spoke about the Shooting Stars program, what it means to her and about being chosen to attend the camp. Check it out.
As an educational engagement program, our aim is to guide our participants through their educational journey and provide the necessary tools and support to enable them to thrive. With every year of education that our girls complete, the opportunities and pathways that are available to them post their school increase. Shooting Stars are thrilled to have 40 girls completing year 12 this year – the highest number so far. These girls have been empowered through their education journey, and with the support of the Shooting Stars staff on the ground, they are now empowered to take their futures into their own hands.
