Collie Shooting Stars participants were treated to a visit by West Coast Fever superstars Jhaniele Fowler and Rudi Ellis this week, spending the day immersing themselves in Aboriginal culture and sharing their netball tips and tricks.
The women opened the day by sharing their journey that has led them to playing elite netball for West Coast Fever. Fowler shared with the girls that her favourite part of the game is her teammates, and spoke to the importance of having people around you that you trust and can rely on.
Players then made braided headbands with the girls and participated in traditional face art before taking them through a West Coast Fever warmup session, complete with stretches, ball skills and a highly-sought-after goal shooting session with Fowler herself.
At the end of the day, West Coast Fever athlete and Shooting Stars ambassador, Jhaniele Fowler, spoke about her love for the Shooting Stars program and participants.
“Visiting Collie was a great experience for me I appreciated the enthusiasm from the girls, the environment was very welcoming and fun. Having been a part of the Shooting Stars program for a while now, it's always immensely humbling for me when I’m interacting with these young ladies.”
Saturday, May 28 marks the West Coast Fever’s home game against the Queensland Firebirds within First Nations Round, a round that recognises and celebrates Aboriginal people and culture. The partnership provides Shooting Stars a platform to showcase the program to the wider West Coast Fever audience.
