The community of Collie, Western Australia, have come together to celebrate the commencement of the Shooting Stars program in Collie Senior High School targeting participants from years seven to nine.
Operating since Term Three, the program currently engages 45 Aboriginal girls and is committed to growing their confidence, identity, cultural connection, capacity and resources to make informed decisions about their education and employment journey.
Community Elder, Patricia Ireland thanked Shooting Stars for its impact so far.
“I’m excited to see such a great program running at Collie Senior High School for our Aboriginal girls,” said Ireland.
“I have two granddaughters, one who is in the Shooting Stars program and the other is currently engaged in the Seven Sisters program and both of them just love it.”
“These programs are such a great opportunity for our daughters, nieces and granddaughters, so thank you Shooting Stars.”
Shooting Stars Executive Officer, Fran Haintz said it was a great day for both Shooting Stars and the Collie community.
“Community collaboration is very important for our program, so to have the turn out we did to celebrate the commencement of Shooting Stars in the Collie community is just fantastic,” said Haintz.
“I’m really excited to see the impact this program will have on the Aboriginal girls of the Collie community in the near future.”
