It’s already been a huge start to the school year for Shooting Stars staff, kicking off with an intensive week of training ahead of week one of the new school year. The now exceptionally large team came together in Perth, embracing the opportunity to connect, share, build stronger relationships and develop skills and knowledge through a full schedule of sessions led by internal and external facilitators.
The value of our program is deeply rooted in our well-trained and supported team members – their unique strengths, and the relationships and support they offer our participants. Therefore, staff development is a top priority, and our training programs ensure the team is equipped with tools and understandings necessary for empowering the next cohort of Aboriginal girls.
Key focuses of our training week were emotional intelligence, psychological safety, trauma-informed training and working with diverse individuals. We also introduced and discussed new tools and initiatives that have been informed by our research, Yarning with the Stars, with Shooting Stars participants, staff and local steering committee members.
Each year, our annual training week marks the progress of the team’s development and growth. Despite a few friendly faces missing due to flooding in the Kimberley, our latest all-staff photo shows that our team is bigger than ever. With new sites established, the team is set to grow even further, along with the number of Shooting Stars participants we hope to see empowered by the program.
