As proud beneficiaries of Telethon, Shooting Stars thanks the West Australian community for their contributions and for the opportunities their generosity has afforded us. It was an honour to showcase our program at this year's Telethon Family Festival. On the 22nd Of October, Shooting Stars participants from Collie Senior High School, Merredin College and Kiara College attended the event to run a Shooting Stars stall, which families would engage with throughout the day.
Located inside at RAC Arena, Shooting Stars ran a ‘wishing star’ craft activity inspired by our ‘Sparks’ program. Sparks, which is supported by Telethon’s funding, aims to empower Shooting Stars participants by encouraging the discovery of their passions, talents and things that give them energy – their sparks.
By creating their own unique wishing stars on Telethon Weekend, children were encouraged to express themselves and think about what truly excites them. Responses to the question “What is your spark?” included baking, soccer, dancing, hugs and Lego construction.
The students confidently facilitated the activity and shared what the Sparks program is all about.
Brooke Cuthbertson, Shooting Stars Program Coordinator at Collie said "Sparks participants from our Collie site were fortunate to travel to Perth city and partake in the 2023 Telethon Family Festival. Our girls exhibited exemplary leadership qualities, as they passionately engaged young children and their families in meaningful craft activities at the Shooting Stars stall”.
The day was a success with 340 Shooting Stars made, lots of smiles and glitter everywhere.
