Shooting Stars is delighted that Viva Energy Australia has continued its support of the Shooting Stars program in 2020 – being the second consecutive year.
The sponsorship will provide scholarships that will allow four Shooting Stars participants the opportunity of a lifetime, to attend the annual Senior Leadership Camp for 2020.
Now in its fifth year, the Shooting Stars Senior Leadership Camp is an opportunity for participants to experience Perth and engage with strong Aboriginal leaders to gain cultural knowledge and understanding, develop project management skills as well as identify post-school pathways.
Each year, 10 participants are chosen based on their leadership application, school attendance and engagement and, thanks to Viva Energy’s contribution, two participants each from our Laverton and Leonora sites will be able to take part, growing the cohort to 14. The Senior Leadership camp is to take place from the 26 -31 October 2020.
Viva Energy’s Head of Mining, David Fox, said that supporting the program is a great example of the company’s commitments made in its Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP), launched last year.
“Viva Energy is proud to support a program that empowers Aboriginal girls living in remote communities, providing them with leadership opportunities and a voice to be heard,” Mr Fox said.
Shooting Stars Executive Officer Fran Haintz is pleased to welcome Viva Energy as a Sponsor once again.
“Viva Energy’s continued support is another example of an Australian company with operations in Western Australia investing in the remote communities where they and their customers work,” said Haintz.
“The Senior Leadership Camp is a once in a lifetime opportunity for the girls and will serve as further motivation for them to maintain the level of engagement in our Program and school. It’s also about showing the positive pathways that are achievable for girls from remote communities.”
“We’re very proud that Viva Energy has committed for another year so we can further develop the opportunities we are able to provide to empower our participants.”
