Tilly Kyanga and Taya Olman after recently completing their own traineeships, have launched a Young Leaders Group to support the younger women of the Shooting Stars staff to achieve their goals and dreams.
The Leadership Group brings together a collective of young Aboriginal women who are passionate about positively contributing to their community whilst developing their knowledge and skills.
The weekly online sessions help to connect like-minded women across the state, who otherwise may not be able to connect with those their age with similar goals and values in their remote communities.
Tilly and Taya run the weekly online sessions which further develops their leadership skills as they create agendas, take minutes and chair the meetings.
This week, Tilly and Taya organised to have Kirsten Howard attend the session and share her journey, where she started with Shooting Stars as a Trainee and now, four years on, is the Regional Manager of the Kimberley for Shooting Stars.
Shooting Stars Executive Officer, Fran Haintz said this initiative displayed great leadership from the Shooting Stars Team.
“Empowering women is at the core of Shooting Stars and it’s amazing to see our young staff band together and help support one another to achieve success,” said Haintz.
“With all remote towns and communities come certain barriers and access to like-minded women with the same values and goals can be difficult, the Young Leaders Group helps to bridge that gap and gives them an opportunity to connect with other similar young Aboriginal women.”
