Shooting Stars’ newest recruit, Shonitta Gordon shares her goal to be a role model for other young Aboriginal girls living in remote communities.
Currently a Trainee Assistant in Halls Creek, Shonitta recently graduated from Edmund Rice College in Perth where she returned to her hometown of Halls Creek to give back to her community.
“My sister was always my role model growing up and working at Shooting Stars gives me the opportunity to be that role model for the younger Aboriginal girls in my community,” said Gordon.
“I want to help the girls see that there is so much out there for them and that you can go out and grab these opportunities and come back to your hometown along with your learnings, which benefits yourself as well as your community.”
Shonitta attributes her re-found confidence to the Shooting Stars organisation, explaining that working for a program that has real positive impacts on real people has made her very proud, along with her family.
Shooting Stars Executive Officer, Fran Haintz shared the importance of selecting the right people for Shooting Stars.
“Our organisation is only as good as our staff and finding the right people to work in community is so essential for the success of our participants,” said Haintz.
“Like all of Shooting Stars site staff, Shonitta is an extremely motivated young woman and has the ability to connect with our participants and inspire them to achieve their best.”
