Shooting Stars Executive Officer Fran Haintz has been recognised for her significant work in the program, winning the Promotion of Human Rights Award at the 2017 United Nations Day and United Nations Association of Australia WA Division (UNAAWA) Awards.
For the first time, the UN Day gala event presented the UNAAWA’s inaugural awards, which highlights individuals, community members and organisations in Western Australia who have made significant contributions, through global thinking and local actions, to further the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Haintz has been at the forefront of the development and strategic direction of Shooting Stars from the pilot program in 2014, to now boasting more than 300 participants across six delivery sites.
Beating out three other nominees on the night, Haintz possesses more than 25 years experience in rural and remote Indigenous communities, non-government organisations, small business and corporate Australia, as well as extensive experience in community development, program delivery and strategic and financial planning.
Haintz said she was honoured by the award, which was presented by the Governor of Western Australia, Her Excellency the Honourable Kerry Sanderson AO.
“Shooting Stars enables me to combine my passions; education, Indigenous equality and netball,” Haintz said.
“The program recognises every one of the 300 participants as an individual with dreams and aspirations, and we work incredibly hard to facilitate them achieving these goals.”
“To have been recognised as an individual myself for doing something that I love and find so rewarding is an honour.”
Held at Government House, award winners were celebrated across four categories, namely education, human rights, gender equality and environment.
