Glass Jar Australia, the organisation driving the impactful Shooting Stars program, is delighted to announce the addition of Sophie Coffin to its board of directors.
Ms Coffin, a proud Palyku and Ngangumarta woman with ties to Yindjibarndi Country in the Pilbara region, brings a wealth of experience to the board. Her professional journey includes serving as Principal Associate to the Chief Justice at the Supreme Court.
From working as an Education Assistant in Geraldton, supporting high school students with special needs, to her roles in youth engagement at the State Government, working with young people and horses in the Kimberley at Yawardani Jan-ga and tutoring at the University of Western Australia, Ms Coffin has experienced education and youth outcomes from a number of perspectives.
In addition to her extensive background in research, law, education and youth engagement, Ms Coffin’s commitment to cultural security and social justice is evident in her advocacy work.
Board Chair, Dr Glenda Kickett, has expressed her excitement for the board’s new recruit, stating, “We are extremely lucky to have Sophie on the board, and I look forward to the perspectives and insights she will offer. It’s hard to imagine one person can cover such a broad spectrum of criteria so beneficial to the organisation. The extent of her experience and achievements throughout her career to date, both professionally and academically, is beyond impressive. Furthermore, her presence, contributions and advocacy in matters surrounding reconciliation, culture, and the rights of Aboriginal women and youth, make her an invaluable asset to our team."
Ms Coffin shared, “I am very excited to be joining Glass Jar Australia’s board. I feel privileged to have this opportunity to work alongside and learn from such respected and accomplished leaders in our community.
“The organisation’s vision of empowerment aligns with my passion for social justice and leadership development for our young girls and women.
“I’ve seen the impact of the Shooting Stars program and its strong reputation in community. I strongly believe education leads to empowerment and the more educated our community, the better outcomes we can create for our mob.”
