Shooting Stars would like to congratulate Kirsten Howard on completing her 12 month AFL SportsReady traineeship with the program.
The Derby local will now transition into a full time role, becoming the first official employee to enter an employment pathway with Shooting Stars.
Kirsten said it was a privilege to contribute to the growth and development of young Indigenous women in her community.
“I just wanted to help the young girls in my community,” she said.
“There’s no doubt being involved in sport helps them achieve their goals and to witness the change in attitude and confidence in the students has been amazing.”
“Gaining my certificate allows me to move into more permanent work with these girls and continue to help them grow into the strong, confident and driven young women they all strive to be.”
Kirsten has grown immensely in the 12 months since beginning her traineeship, from shy beginnings in her initial days to a woman who has undoubtedly made her mark in both the Shooting Stars program, and her local community.
Shooting Stars Executive Officer, Fran Haintz, expressed her delight for Kirsten and her achievements.
“We are extremely proud of Kirsten, not only for completing her traineeship, but also the level of commitment she has shown to our students this past year,” Haintz said.
“She has been an outstanding role model for both the young girls in our program, as well as the young women in her local community as she completed her traineeship while raising her two lovely sons.”
“Kirsten’s transition to our employment team is a credit to the dedication she has displayed to her traineeship and we consider ourselves very lucky to have her join us on a more permanent basis.”
Shooting Stars now employs 15 staff, with more than 50% of the workforce identifying as Indigenous Australians.
