Adelaide Thunderbirds athletes, Hannah Petty and Matilda Garrett brought their passion for netball and education to Shooting Stars sites in Whyalla, South Australia this week.
Spending the day with the participants, the athletes ran netball skills and drills sessions, followed by a round-robin competition teaching the participants leadership and teamwork, as well as developing their on-court skills.
Thunderbirds midcourter, Hannah Petty said to Whyalla News the Shooting Stars program was empowering.
“The day was about having fun, getting them involved...if anything they have been teaching us a few tricks as well,” said Petty.
“The work that Shooting Stars do in the community is great, to help support that and encourage young girls to set goals and dreams is super exciting.”
Shooting Stars Whyalla Manager, Stacey Gray said this was a great opportunity for the Shooting Stars participants of Whyalla.
“It’s amazing to have the girls from the Thunderbirds join us to inspire the students and motivate them.”
