Off the back of winning the Suncorp Super Netball Grand Final, Shooting Stars partner, West Coast Fever, have donated one of their 2022 First Nations Round dresses to help support Aboriginal girls and women across Western and South Australia.
Designed by Noongar artists, Peter Farmer and Kylie Graham, the signed Indigenous dress has been framed and is available to bid on via an online auction, with funds raised going towards the Shooting Stars program delivery.
The dress itself features Aboriginal women’s symbols to represent each member of the playing squad, alongside a series of significant waterholes on Whadjuk country.
The Suncorp Super Netball First Nations Round saw West Coast Fever host the Queensland Firebirds – a fitting match up which saw Firebirds shooter Donnell Wallam play in front of her family. The Firebirds had a hard-fought win, beating the Fever 72-68.
Shooting Stars has enjoyed the support of West Coast Fever and their players, who have taken up ambassador roles, since 2016. The girls have become great role models for Shooting Stars participants, inspiring them to aim high and chase their dreams.
In very remote and regional Australia, Aboriginal women are up to 52% less likely to graduate Year 12 than their non-indigenous peers. Through the Shooting Stars program, we are empowering these girls and women to make informed decisions throughout their education and employment journey’s. We’d love for you to be part of the change – click here to place your bid!
The online auction will be live until 11:59pm Tuesday 9th August.
