Engagement Activities
We offer different sporting, social, creative and cultural activities at school and outside of school.
Shooting Stars is an engagement program for strong and thriving Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and girls. Working together with host schools and communities, we offer various forms of advocacy, support, opportunities and experiences for program participants.
The Shooting Stars program works to ensure all participants are empowered to drive their own futures. We do this by promoting the growth of confidence, cultural identity, positive relationships and overall health and wellbeing.
Shooting Stars participants attend weekly Health and Wellbeing sessions, which are scheduled within their class timetables. In addition to these sessions, we sometimes have optional before/after school activities, events, excursions, and camps. We also have the Shooting Stars room open as a culturally safe space for participants to spend their recess and lunch times.

These weekly sessions are scheduled into school timetables. Registered participants will come to the Shooting Stars classroom and engage in activities and enrichment programs tailored in line with community and participant input.
Participants work towards short-term goals, and they are recognised for their positive choices and behaviour.
Most Shooting Stars staff members are Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women. Participants can rely on us as trusted adults who will listen, understand, provide guidance and encouragement. We also advocate for them to have a seat at the table and have their voice heard.
Communities are engaged through collaboration. This is an outcome of the program as well as an ongoing component of delivery.
This is where we have scheduled Health and Wellbeing sessions, and it’s also a safe and comfortable space for participants to spend their recess and lunch times, or take a pause to regulate and reground themselves. In the room, participants enjoy games, books, art supplies, beauty products and more.
We support participants with transitioning from school to their post-school journeys. We encourage participants to set goals for their futures, and we ensure they are empowered to make decisions and work towards those goals.
These camps happen once a year to foster leadership skills, inspire young leaders, bring peers together from across different parts of WA and SA, and provide opportunities for learning, new experiences and creating lasting memories. Being selected to attend a Leadership Camp is an achievement.
We encourage participants to have a positive attitude towards their education, health, wellbeing, and future while demonstrating our values.
Participants feel empowered to make their own positive and informed decisions.
Participants feel strong and proud to be Aboriginal women.
Participants are encouraged and supported to attend school and strive towards attendance and behaviour goals.
These give participants an opportunity to voice their opinions and feelings about school and Shooting Stars. Our team may also facilitate yarning circles with community members and school staff. This mode of gathering feedback and information allows us to keep improving and tailoring the program.
Shooting Stars staff collect attendance, performance and behaviour data.
Staff write confidential reports to highlight participants’ successes.
Participant family members and caregivers are invited to attend, as well as members of the wider school community, funding partners and other VIPs. The event is all about celebrating the participants’ achievements, reflecting on their growth and looking back on memorable moments throughout the year.
