NAIDOC Week
Shooting Stars is proudly celebrating NAIDOC Week
2021 Theme: Heal Country, heal our nation
The 2021 NAIDOC Week Theme, Heal Country, calls for stronger measures to recognise, protect, and maintain all aspects of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and heritage.
Healing Country means embracing First Nation’s cultural knowledge and understanding of Country as part of Australia’s national heritage. That the culture and values of Aboriginal peoples and Torres Strait Islanders are respected equally to the cultures and values of all Australians.
How Shooting Stars is contributing to the 2021 NAIDOC Theme
Shooting Stars believes that success starts with a strong identity to culture. The program provides opportunities for our participants to strengthen their connection to culture and identity, such as engaging with strong Aboriginal leaders and participating in on-country learning, through our leadership and rewards camps to gain cultural knowledge and understanding.
More than just an education program, the Shooting Stars yarning circles use evidence, impact and research to influence positive long-term changes to systems and institutions that currently disempower Aboriginal girls and women.
