Official Charity Partner of the West Coast Fever
Since 2015, the Shooting Stars Program has been the official charity partner of the West Coast Fever. We are proud to have player Ambassadors, Courtney Bruce, Jhaniele Fowler and Verity Charles tour our regions and be role models for our participants, engaging throughout the year within the communities we operate in.
As a Club, West Coast Fever are extremely supportive of our vision and mission and each year Fever hosts an Indigenous Round at RAC Arena, recognising and celebrating Aboriginal people and culture, in conjunction with the Shooting Stars Senior Leadership Camp. It is one of the Club’s flagship events, providing an opportunity to showcase Fever’s engagement with our participants, staff and supporters and celebrate the oldest culture in the world.
In the lead up to the game, West Coast Fever athletes and Shooting Stars participants come together for an official dress blessing ceremony, in 2021 this was led by respected Noongar Elder and Noongar language specialist, Aunty Roma Winmar.
Designed by Noongar artists, Peter Farmer and Kylie Graham, the Indigenous Dress features seven circular symbols representing the seven players on the court gathering or coming together and the unpredictable path water weaves throughout the landscape.
On court, the game is played using a special ball designed by Yorta-Yorta/Wurundjeri woman, Simone Thomson, whilst game day activations include a community canvas project, led by Whadjuk Noongar artist Julianne Wade.
