Good News Stories: Mid West Gascoyne

March 3, 2017

It’s nearly half way through Term 1 and Shooting Stars is off to a fabulous start in the Mid West Gascoyne. In Week 3, 13 Shooting Stars girls from Meekatharra District High School travelled to Wiluna Remote Community School, to partake in an afternoon of netball skill development, followed by the Wiluna Shooting Stars first ever netball match. All Shooting Stars and Wiluna Remote Community School staff were impressed by the girls’ sportsmanship, especially the visitors, who helped explain rules to their hosts and reaffirm position boundaries on court.

The day trip was a pilot reward, with the Year 5, 6, and 7 Meekatharra Shooting Stars visiting Wiluna in Week 6 for a sleepover with the Wiluna girls. Both sites are excited about the opportunity to spend time together, cooking food, swimming, engaging in fun indoor games, and most importantly, playing the great sport of netball!

All Shooting Stars rewards are open to girls who attend school 80% (or above), or have improved by 20% from the previous term. The Wiluna reward trips have already proved to be a fantastic success, with three Meekatharra girls: Tingo, Talfiah, and Nedilliah, improving their attendance by over 40% each in order to attend the Wiluna trips.
